Military expenditure

Often enough people have commented that India and Indians are indifferent to threats of any kind and are eager to please outsiders with no concern whether those outsiders might destroy them. So we looked at the figures of recent military expenditures for select countries. What fraction of a country's GDP is spent on weapons and military?
The Saudis, with no enemy in sight, spend 6.6% of their GDP on the military. Russia with only its own people to fear spends 4.1%, The USA, with a desire to dominate all other countries spends 3.5% of its GDP on military. South Korea with no enemy and the Americans for protection spends 2.8% of its GDP on the military. India, hounded by its two neighbours, the Islamist Pakistan and the expansionist China, who constantly work to undermine India's sovereignty spends only 2.7% of its GDP on the military-- almost 40% of that is spent on  pensions and another 20% on salaries. The UK, France and Germany, with no enemy in sight and with no one to fear still manage to spend 2.2%, 2.0% and 1.3% of their GDP on the military. China in comparison spends only 1.7% of its GDP on military.
