It is the 133rd BirthAnniversary of the first President of India, Rajendra Prasad. When he turned 5 years old, he was taught by a Maulavi, as his father wanted him to learn the Persian language, Hindi and arithmetic. After finishing his schooling, he came first in the entrance examination to the University of Calcutta and was awarded Rs. 30 per month as a scholarship. Impressed by his intellect, an examiner once had commented on his answer sheet "examinee is better than examiner." He became a lawyer but gave up his practice to join Gandhiji's Non-Cooperation Movement. He presided over the Indian Constituent Assembly, from 1946-49 and helped to shape the constitution. He was unanimously elected as the first President of India in 1950. He then quit the Congress and set up new guidelines for the parliamentarians that are still followed. "In attaining our ideals, our means should be as pure as the end." - he said. How have his words and deeds inspired you over the years?
