Bhoodan

Vedire  Ramachandra Reddy, of Pochampally village (hands folded), gave a 100 acres of his land to Acharya Vinoba Bhave as bhoodan on April 18th, 1951. A few days later he would donate more land, taking the total to 800 acres. Ramchandra Reddy thus became the first Indian to donate land to the Bhoodan movement. Land thus acquired would be distributed among the landless.
Bhoodan was a Gandhian idea being implemented by Bhave. That people who had surplus land should voluntarily gift away a small portion to those who had none.
