ஸ்காட்லாந்தில் இம்மாதிரி பேக்பைப்பர் என்பது தவிர்க்க முடியாத வாத்தியக் கருவியாகும். திருமணம் போன்ற மகிழ்ச்சியான நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் மட்டும் அல்லாமல், மரணம் போன்ற துயரமான சூழலிலும் இந்த பைப்பர் இசைக்கருவியை வாசிப்பது ஸ்காட்லாந்தின் வழக்கமாக உள்ளது.

   பிரிட்டனை விட்டுப் பிரிந்து தனிநாடாக விடுதலை பெற வேண்டும் என்று பல போராட்டங்கள் ஸ்காட்லாந்தில் நடந்தன. இதற்காகப் பொது வாக்கெடுப்பு  நடத்த வேண்டும் என்ற கோரிக்கையும் எழுந்தது. 1707 - இல் இங்கிலாந்தோடு ஸ்காட்லாந்து இணைந்தது. கடந்த 20 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில்தான் தனிநாடாக ஸ்காட்லாந்த் பிரிய வேண்டும் என்று கோரிக்கைகளும் போராட்டங்களும் நடந்தன. தொடக்கத்தில்  ஸ்காட்லாந்த் மக்கள் இதை ஆதரிக்கவில்லை என்றாலும், தனிநாடாகப் பிரிவதற்கான மக்களின் ஆதரவு சற்று அதிகரித்தது. 2014 - இல் இதுகுறித்து பொது வாக்கெடுப்பு நடந்தபோது பெரும் விவாதங்கள் நிகழ்ந்தன. ஆனால் 55 சதவீதம் ஸ்காட்லாந்த் மக்கள் பிரிட்டனோடுதான் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று  (Referundum) வாக்களித்தனர். அதில் 45 சதவீதம் மட்டும் தனிநாடு வேண்டும் என்று வாக்களித்தனர். தனிநாடு கோரிக்கைக்கான வாக்கெடுப்பு தோல்வியில் முடிந்தது.   ஸ்காட்லாந்தில் தனிநாடாளுமன்றம் என்ற உரிமையை 1991-இல் பிரிட்டன் நாடாளுமன்றம் வழங்கியது. ஸ்காட்லாந்தில் பிரதமர் என்றில்லாமல் பிரதான முதல் அமைச்சர் (First minister) தான் இருப்பார். தற்போது அங்கு நிக்கோலா என்ற பெண் பிரதான முதல் அமைச்சராகப் பொறுப்பிலிருக்கிறார். Nicola Ferguson Sturgeon (born 19 July 1970) is a Scottish politician serving as First Minister of Scotland and Leader 

 அதேபோல பிரிட்டனுக்கு உட்பட்டிருந்தாலும்,  அயர்லாந்திலும் இதுபோன்ற  நாடாளுமன்ற அமைப்பு தனியாக உள்ளது. On 17 June 2021, despite a letter from the Democratic Unionist Party chairman and other senior party members, DUP leader Edwin Poots nominated Paul Givan as First Minister and Sinn Féin re-nominated Michelle O'Neill as deputy First Minister. On 4 February 2022, Givan resigned as First Minister, which led to O'Neill automatically ceasing to hold office as deputy First Minister. இந்த இரண்டு நாடுகளின் நாடாளுமன்றங்களிலும் நடந்த எலிசபெத் ராணி மறைவுக்கு இரங்கல் தெரிவிக்கும் நிகழ்வுகளில் மூன்றாம் சார்லஸ் கலந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார்.

I saw this on a genealogy page (not a specifically Irish one) and I was curious what people here--especially those from the Republic of Ireland--would think of the chart's inclusion of all of Ireland as a "British Isle." I thought the phrase "the British Isles" might be considered a little archaic. Just curious--thanks.

“Every now and again I am asked the question about British and English so I thought I would repost the answer.

English refers to people of England. British refers to the natives of the United Kingdom, Crown Dependencies, British Overseas Territories, and their descendants

So here we go. If you are from England, as an English citizen you are English. If you are from any of the countries in the British Isles you are British. This means that only the English, from England as a citizen can be both English and British. Same as the Scots and the Welsh! They are British but not English. Scotland England Wales and Northern Ireland are part of the United Kingdom.”

Note 1. Jersey is reportedly not part of the UK per se. Jersey has its own international identity. Jersey is not bound by acts of parliamentary unless it agrees to be. Jersey can enter into its own international agreements. They do seem to be included in the defense arrangements of the British Islands.

 இந்நிலையில் அரசியலில் மட்டுமல்லாமல், கலாசாரத்திலும் தங்களுடைய  மரபுகளை விட்டுவிடாமல் ஸ்காட்லாந்த் மக்கள் தொடர்ந்து கடைப்பிடித்து வருகின்றனர்.  பேண்ட் அணியாமல் தங்களுக்கான பாரம்பரிய முழங்கால் வரை உள்ள ட்ரவுசர் மாதிரியான உடையை அணிந்து கொள்வது,  ஒரு சின்ன சங்கிலியால் சுருக்குப் பை மாதிரி தொங்கக் கூடிய வகையில் தங்களுடைய உடை ஆபரணங்களை அணிந்து கொள்வது என பாரம்பரியத்தைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கின்றனர். எலிசபெத் ராணி ஸ்காட்லாந்த் சென்றால், இந்த உடை ஆபரணங்களை அணிவது வாடிக்கை. ஸ்காட்லாந்தின் தலைநகர் எடின்பரோ பாரம்பரியமான மரபுகளைக் கட்டிக் காக்கின்ற நகரமாகும்.
