Mulayam Singh Yadav

Mulayam’s political career started in 1967 when he was elected as an MLA for the very first time. Mulayam Singh Yadav was mentored by great political leaders like Ram Manohar Lohia and Raj Narain. Mulayam was a socialist leader. His party was named as Samajwadi Party. Mulayam had to spend 19 months in jail during the time of emergency in 1975. In 1977, Yadav became the state minister in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet. In 1980, Mulayam became the president of Lok Dal. From 1982 to 1985, Mulayam was elected as leader of the opposition in the Uttar Pradesh legislative council. After the split in Lok Dal, Mulayam came with his initiative and party, the Krantikari Morcha Party.

Mulayam was chosen as the Chief Minister Of Uttar Pradesh for three terms. Mulayam became the Chief Minister in 1989, 1993, and 2003. For the first time, Mulayam was appointed as the Chief Minister Of Uttar Pradesh on 5 December 1989. He remained chief minister till 24 June 1991 before being succeeded by Kalyan Singh. On 5 December 1993, Yadav again took the oath as the Chief Minister Of Uttar Pradesh. This time his tenure lasted till 3 June 1995. For the third and last time, Mulayam was elected as the Chief Minister on 29 August 2003 and remained in power till 13 May 2007.
