"தேன் மதுர தமிழோசையை உலகமெல்லாம் பரவச்செய்தல் வேண்டும்" என்றார் எனக்குப்பிடித்த மகாகவி பாரதியார்.  ஆனால் அவர் கனவை எவ்வளவு தூரம் நிறைவு செய்கின்றோம் என்பதே இப்பதிவின் கரு.

இந்தியா முழுவதும் அல்ல உலகெங்கும் கடந்த 1982ல் இருந்து தமிழ் மொழியை பயிற்றுவிக்கின்ற துறைகள் பல்வேறு பல்கலைக்கழகங்களில் இருந்தன. ஆனால் இன்று படிப்படியாக பல இடங்களில் தமிழ் துறைகள் மூடப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.  பல பல்கலைக்கழகங்களில் 1982ல் இருந்த தமிழ் துறைகள் இன்றைக்கு இல்லாமல் போனது மிகவும் வருத்தத்தை கொடுக்கிறது.
