கேன் - பேட்வா நதிகள் இணைப்பு - Linking of Ken and Betwa Rivers.

மத்தியப் பிரதேச மாநிலத்தின் நதிகள் இணைப்புத் திட்டத்தின் கீழ்  கென் ஆற்றுடன் பேட்வா ஆறு இணைக்கப்பட்டது. இதில் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ள மடாடிலா அணையானது மத்தியப் பிரதேசம் மற்றும் உத்திரப் பிரதேசம் ஆகிய மாநிலங்களின் நிர்வாகத்தின் கீழ் வருகிறது

பேட்வா ஆறு வட இந்தியாவில் ஓடும் இது யமுனை நதியின் கிளை ஆறு ஆகும். பேட்வா என்பதற்கு வெட்ராவதி என்று பொருள். இந்த ஆறானது மொத்தம் 590 கிலோமீட்டர்கள் நீளமுடையது. இதில் 232 கிலோமீட்டர்கள் மத்தியப் பிரதேசத்திலும் மீதி 358 கிலோமீட்டர்கள் உத்திரம் பிரதேசத்திலும் ஓடுகிறது. உத்திரப் பிரதேசம் மற்றும் மத்தியப் பிரதேசம் அரசுகளுக்கு இடையேயான உடன்படிக்கையின் படி 1973 ஆம் ஆண்டு பேட்வா நதிநீர் வாரியம் அமைக்கப்பட்டது

ராஜ்காட் அணை (Rajghat Dam), மாடாடிலா அணை ( Matatila Dam)
பரிச்சா அணை (Parichha Dam) ஆகிய மூன்று அணைகள் இந்த ஆற்றின் குறுக்கே கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது.

கேன் மற்றும் பேட்வா நதிநீர் இணைப்பு, வாஜ்பாய் பிரதமராக இருந்தபொழுது 2003ம் ஆண்டிலே முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டு, கடந்த இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னால் மத்திய பிரதேசத்தில் திட்டமிடபட்டு பணிகள் துவக்கப்பட்டது.

ஆனால், தமிழ்நாட்டில்,
1. காவிரி - குண்டாறு நதிநீர் இணைப்புத் திட்டம்,
2. தாமிரபரணி -கருமேனியாறு - நம்பியாறு இணைப்புத் திட்டம், 3.தென்பெண்ணை - செய்யாறு இணைப்புத் திட்டம்
4.  வெள்ளநீர் கால்வாய்த்திட்டமான தாமிரபரணி ஆறு, கருமேனி ஆறு, நம்பியாறு, பச்சையாறு, கோரையாறு, எலுமிச்சையாறு ஆகிய 6 நதிகளை இணைக்கும் திட்டம் ஆகிய தமிழகத் திட்டங்கள் ஆமை வேகத்தில் நகர்கின்றன.

தி.மு.க ஆட்சியில் துவக்கப்பட்ட திட்டம் என்று தாமிரபரணி நதிநீர் இணைப்புத் திட்டம் நீண்ட நாட்களாகக் கிடப்பில் போடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
ஆனால் வட இந்தியாவில் உத்திர பிரதேசம், மத்திய பிரதேசம் போன்ற மாநிலங்கள் பயன்பெறும் வகையில் வேகமாக நதிநீர் இணைப்பு பணிகள் நடக்கின்றன.

Nearly 40 years after it was conceived, India will finally launch its ambitious river interlinking project in December to irrigate parched farmlands and generate power.

The 30-link project would start with the linking of Ken and Betwa rivers to provide irrigation facility to water-deficient Raisen and Vidisha districts of central Madhya Pradesh. The two rivers — that constitute phase 1 and 2 of the project — flow through MP and Uttar Pradesh.

Estimated to cost more than ` 7,600 crore, the Ken-Betwa link will facilitate the annual irrigation of 4.46 lakh hectares of land — three times the size of Delhi.

“The detailed project report and other formalities have been completed. We expect the work to start from December. Detailed reports for some other projects too have been completed and the construction work on those links would also start gradually,” said S Masood Hussain, director general of the National Water Development Agency (NWDA), which has been entrusted with the project. The agency falls under the ministry of water resources.

Construction on the Damanganga-Pinjal and ParTapi-Narmada links in Gujarat and Maharashtra and the second phase of the Ken-Betwa link could also start “very soon” with detailed project reports already completed.

The project — assigned as a priority under the Vajpayee government — received a renewed push under PM Narendra Modi who set up a special committee to monitor its execution in September last year. A separate task force was also constituted in April. (Courtesy : Hindustan Times )
