#SyamaPrasadMukherji (b. 6 July 1901 – d. 23 June 1953). India's first Minister for Industry and Supply. He disagreed with Nehru over the Nehru-Liaqat Pact which resulted in over 5 lakh Muslims coming back to West Bengal from East Bengal to which they had migrated to in 1947. In 1953, Syama Prasad Mukherjee went to Kashmir and observed a hunger strike to protest the law that prohibited Indian citizens from settling within the state and mandating that they carry identity papers. He was arrested. Within a few hours he was dead.
