விடுதலை போராட்டத்தின் முக்கிய தலைவர் அப்துல் கஃபர் கான் (Abdul Ghaffar Khan) என்ற எல்லை காந்தியின் பெயர் டெல்லி கான் மார்க்கெட்டிற்கு சூட்டப்பட்டது. ஏனெனில் இந்திய பிரிவினையின் போது பாக்கிஸ்தான் மற்றும் வடமேற்கு பகுதிகளிலிருந்து வந்தவர்களுக்காக டெல்லியில் ஒதுக்கப்பட்ட இடமாக இது அமைந்தது. எல்லை காந்தி பாக்கிஸ்தான் பெஷாவரில் பிறந்தவர். 1988-ல் தனது 98-வது வயதில் மறைந்தார்.
1980-களில் இருந்து இந்த மார்க்கெட் டெல்லியில் முக்கிய பகுதியாகும். 1970-களில் நான் ஜவகர்லால் நேரு (JNU) பல்கலைக்கழகத்திற்கு சென்றபோது இவ்வளவு முக்கியதுவம் இல்லாமல் சாதரண மர மேசைகள் (Tables) , மர நாற்காலிகளை (Chair) வைத்து கொண்டு கல்லாவில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்கள். இந்த மார்க்கெட் இரண்டு அடுக்கு U வடிவத்தில் அமைந்திருக்கும். ரவீந்தர நகர், பாரதி நகர், சுஜன் சிங் பார்க், கோல்ஃப் லிங்ஸ் லான்ஸ் (Golf Links Lawns) ஆகிய பகுதிகள் கான் மார்க்கெட்டிற்கு அருகாமையில் அமைந்த முக்கிய பகுதிகள் ஆகும்.
நாட்டின் விடுதலைக்கு பின் 1951-ல் 154 கடைகளும், 74 குடியிருப்பு வீடுகளும் கட்டப்பட்டது. 1980-வரை சாதாரண மளிகைக்கடைகள், வன்பொருள் கடைகளும் (Hardware Shop) அன்றைக்கு இருந்தன. அங்கே ராஜாராம் சன்ஸ் என்ற மருந்தகம் இருந்தது. ஒரு வயதான பெண்மணி கல்லாவில் அமர்ந்துகொண்டு பொருள்களுக்கு பணத்தை பெற்றுக்கொள்வார். அன்றைக்கு கான் மார்க்கெட்டினுடைய வாடகையும், அதை விலைக்கு வாங்குவதும் மலிவாக இருந்தது.
கான் மார்க்கெட்டின் பிரதான வாயில்களிலே நீண்ட காலமாக பாகிரிசன்ஸ் புத்தகக் கடை இருக்கின்றது. அந்த புத்தக கடையில் இருக்கும் மித்லேஷ் சிங்கிடம் அகில இந்திய, இந்திய ஆளுமைகளைப் பற்றி பேசினால் நமக்கு பல தரவுகள் கிடைக்கும்.டில்லி செல்லும் போது பாகிரிசன்ஸ் சென்று இவரை தவறாமல் சந்திப்துண்டு.டெல்லியில் பாகிரிசன்ஸ் மிதிலேஷ் சிங்கை அறியாதவர்கள் யாரும் முக்கிய பிரமுகர்களாக இருக்க முடியாது.
இந்த மார்க்கெட்டை வால்மீகி மார்க்கெட்என்றுபெயரிடவேண்டுமென்றும் சர்ச்சைகள் எழுந்தன. இது டெல்லியில் வாழும் வெளிநாட்டு தூதர்கள், முக்கிய பிரமுகர்கள் தினமும் வந்து செல்கின்ற அங்காடி பகுதியாகும். ஆனால் முதல் அடுக்கிற்கும் இரண்டாவது அடுக்கிற்கும் இடையில் உள்ள பாதை இன்றைக்கும் பழமையாகவே இருக்கின்றது.
டெல்லியில் பாகிரிசன்ஸ் Full Circle book store, Faqir Chand என முக்கிய புத்தகக் கடைகள் ஆகும்.
Khan Market is famous for a lot of things. This list starts with Khan Chacha which is the go-to place for kebabs and rolls. Khan Chacha also serves as a landmark to Khan Market since it is one of the oldest shops here.

If you are looking forward to shopping at Khan Market, some of the most popular places are Good Earth for home and living, Kama Ayurveda and Forest Essentials for skincare, bath care products, Amrapali for Gold and Silver jewellery (look out for their beautiful turquoise door), a flagship store of Royal Enfield for bikers, Illuminati for exceptionally beautiful candles and lighting, Play Clan for accessories and other tini-minies.
Do not forget to visit the Fragrance People store if you have a nose for the most ordinary fragrances and eyes for most designer candles.
Innisfree is another famous skincare brand with few outlets one being in Khan Market. Innisfree is most famous for its Green Tea range of products.
Ranna Gill is another famous landmark of Khan Market. Ranna Gill is a celebrity designer who does a summer and winter exhibition every year.
Raghavendra Rathore is another famous men’s designer dealing in luxury menswear.
