Cornwallis-Madras

The pedestal of the statue of  Lord Cornwallis showing the handing over of the sons of Tippu as hostages. This marble statue was erected by contribution from civil and military inhabitants of Madras as a gratitude for securing #Madras from Tippu Sultan. The  statue sculpted by Thomas Banks was opened on 15th May 1800 in the parade square  inside a Cupola  by Lord Clive Governor of Madras amidst the firing of guns from Saluting battery at Chepauk.
