Even today, Tambaram Railway Station — one of Chennai’s busiest and most revenue-generating hubs — still doesn’t have a lift or escalator facility. Every single day, over 1.6 lakh passengers use this station, yet senior citizens, women, and differently-abled commuters are forced to carry their luggage and climb steep stairs. This station contributes ₹180+ crore annually to the Railways, but the State Government that proudly calls itself the “Dravida Model Government” hasn’t even ensured basic amenities for its own people. When BJP governments across India are modernising railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, providing lifts, escalators, and world-class passenger facilities — here in Tamil Nadu, the Dravidian model leaves people struggling on the stairs. Development shouldn’t stop at slogans — it should reach the people who need it the most.
