 Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's abrupt resignation on Monday evening has opened the contest for his successor.

‘’To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice-President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution,” Dhankhar wrote in a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu.
Constitutional Law Students: as of today India does not have a VP. So what happens in the event of the President also resigning or becoming incapacitated?

Since there's no Vice-President, if the President resigns or is incapacitated, the Chief Justice of India will act as President of India temporarily.
This is not a permanent appointment.
An election for a new President must be held within 6 months (Article 62).
The Chief Justice of India will act as President.
It has happened twice before.
