China building up military base in Coco Island, Indian Ocean-Sri Lanka island posing danger to India’s security

It all feels like a drama of intrigue. Supposing your hardcore enemy pitches a tent near your house on the ground belonging to your neighbor with an evil intent,   how will you react? 

That is what China has long been upto.  The People’s Liberation Army of the People’s Republic of China is now posing danger, covert in the past and overt at present, to India, stepping up its surveillance on the Indian defense moves and manoeuvres in the Bay of Bengal.  It is Myanmar ruled by the junta known as Tatmadaw, which has allowed China to set up the military facilities in the Coco Island in Bay of Bengal, which is just 55 km from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

China’s goal seems to attain a vantage position so that it can track India’s missile launches off the Balasore test range in Odisha as well as strategic assets stationed off the eastern seaboard south of city of Visakhapatnam.

The Chinese surveillance facilities in the Coco Island will spell danger to Indian nuclear submarines at the Rambilli naval base and ballistic missile firing submarines off Visakhapatnam.

Since the nuclear and conventional missile test firing range at Balasore and at APJ Abdul Kalam Island are virtually on the same latitude as Coco Island, China can easily get data about the Indian missiles and about the ballistic missile tracking ships often crisscrossing the Indian Ocean.

Apart from the military facility that China constructs in the Coco Islands belonging to Myanmar, China is also building the satellite receiving ground station Sri Lanka. 

The Chinese moves got exposed thanks to the satellite images taken in January, 2023. It is the  London-base think-thank known as Chatham House which has released a report about the Chinese sinister and secret military base building up with the permission of Myanmar.

Though the Indian government has raised this issue with the Mynamar’s Tatmadaw, the response received from the armed reign is anything but encouraging.

இதைத்தான் சீனா நீண்ட காலமாக செய்து வருகிறது.  சீன மக்கள் குடியரசின் மக்கள் விடுதலை இராணுவம், வங்காள விரிகுடாவில் இந்து மகா சமுத்திரத்தில் இலங்கையை கையில் எடுத்து, இந்திய பாதுகாப்பு நகர்வுகள் மற்றும் சூழ்ச்சிகள் மீதான அதன் கண்காணிப்பை முடுக்கிவிட்டு, கடந்த காலங்களில் மறைமுகமாகவும், தற்போது வெளிப்படையாகவும் இந்தியாவுக்கு ஆபத்தை ஏற்படுத்தி வருகிறது.  அந்தமான் மற்றும் நிக்கோபார் தீவுகளில் இருந்து 55 கி.மீ தொலைவில் உள்ள கோகோ தீவில் இராணுவ வசதிகளை அமைக்க சீனாவை அனுமதித்தது, தத்மாடாவ் என்று அழைக்கப்படும் இராணுவ ஆட்சிக்குழுவால் ஆளப்படும் மியான்மர் ஆகும்.

ஒடிசாவில் உள்ள பாலசோர் சோதனைத் தளத்தில் இருந்து செய்யப்படும் இந்தியாவின் ஏவுகணை ஏவுதல்களையும், விசாகப்பட்டினம் நகருக்கு தெற்கே கிழக்கு கடற்கரையில் நிறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ள பாதுகாப்புச் சொத்துக்களையும் கண்காணிக்கும் நோக்கத்தில் சீனா இருப்பது போலத் தெரிகிறது.

 கோகோ தீவில் உள்ள சீன கண்காணிப்பு வசதிகள் ராம்பில்லி கடற்படை தளத்தில் உள்ள இந்திய அணுசக்தி நீர்மூழ்கிக் கப்பல்கள் மற்றும் விசாகப்பட்டினத்தில் பாலிஸ்டிக் ஏவுகணை நீர்மூழ்கிக் கப்பல்களுக்கு ஆபத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும்.

பாலசோர் மற்றும் ஏ.பி.ஜே அப்துல் கலாம் தீவில் உள்ள அணு மற்றும் வழக்கமான ஏவுகணை சோதனைத் தளங்கள்  கோகோ தீவின் அதே அட்சரேகையில் இருப்பதால், இந்திய ஏவுகணைகள் மற்றும் இந்திய பெருங்கடலைக் கடக்கும் பாலிஸ்டிக் ஏவுகணை கண்காணிப்புக் கப்பல்கள் பற்றிய தரவுகளை சீனாவால் எளிதாகப் பெற முடியும்.

மியான்மருக்கு சொந்தமான கோகோ தீவுகளில் சீனா அமைத்து வரும் ராணுவ வசதியைத் தவிர, செயற்கைக்கோள் படங்களைப் பெறும் நிலையத்தையும் இலங்கையில் சீனா உருவாக்கி வருகிறது. 

2023 ஜனவரியில் எடுக்கப்பட்ட செயற்கைக்கோள் படங்கள் மூலம் சீன நகர்வுகள் அம்பலமாகி உள்ளன. மியான்மரின் அனுமதியுடன் கட்டப்பட்டு வரும் சீனாவின் ரகசிய ராணுவ தளம் குறித்து சாத்தம் ஹவுஸ் என்ற லண்டன் அமைப்பு அறிக்கை வெளியிட்டிருக்கிறது. 

இந்திய அரசாங்கம் இந்த பிரச்சினையை மியான்மரிடம் எழுப்பியிருந்தாலும், ஆயுத ஆட்சி நடக்கும் அந்த நாட்டின் எதிர்வினை ஊக்கமளிப்பதாக இல்லை.
