Though the Governor R. N. Ravi is against the corruption-tainted minister V Senthil Balaji’s continuance in the Cabinet,   Chief Minister M. K. Stalin does not budge  in retaining his colleague as a minister without portfolio.  Stripped of the portfolios of electricity, excise and prohibition as he may be, Balaji will continue to enjoy the financial benefits of his Cabinet status.

Some in defense of the Tamil Nadu government’s action point out the precedent of Prime Minister Nehru keeping in his Cabinet V.K. Menon as a minister without portfolio before the latter was given defense. 

Mursoli Maran was also during hospital days at the time Vajpayee as Prime Minister. Like these few cases were there. 

But in the UK which follows the Westminster model of democracy, there are talks of dispensing with the concept of minister without portfolio.Back in Tamil Nadu, the only major benefit of being a minister without portfolio which Balaji will enjoy is that his medical expenses will be taken care of by the government.  Nobody is there indeed to bother about the burden on the exchequer. How the government is playing ducks and drakes with public money! It paves way to against due process law, rule of law, cabinet system and democracy. Why M. K. Stalin is adamant this issue. Not fair…

ஊழல் கறை படிந்த அமைச்சர் வி.செந்தில்பாலாஜி அமைச்சரவையில் நீடிப்பதை ஆளுநர் ஆர்.என்.ரவி எதிர்த்தாலும், இலாகா இல்லாத அமைச்சராக தனது சகாவைத் தக்க வைத்துக் கொள்வதில் தமிழக முதல்வர் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின் பிடிவாதமாகவே இருக்கிறார்.

 

மின்சாரம், கலால், மதுவிலக்கு ஆகிய இலாகாக்கள் பறிக்கப்பட்டாலும், தனது கேபினட் அந்தஸ்தின் நிதி சலுகைகளை பாலாஜி தொடர்ந்து அனுபவிப்பார்.

தமிழக அரசின் நடவடிக்கையை ஆதரிக்கும் சிலர், பிரதமர் நேரு தனது அமைச்சரவையில் வி.கே.மேனனுக்கு பாதுகாப்புத் துறை வழங்கப்படுவதற்கு முன்பு இலாகா இல்லாத அமைச்சராக இருந்த முன்னுதாரணத்தை சுட்டிக்காட்டுகின்றனர்.

ஆனால் ஜனநாயகத்தின் வெஸ்ட்மின்ஸ்டர் மாதிரியைப் பின்பற்றும் இங்கிலாந்தில், இலாகா இல்லாத அமைச்சர் என்ற கருத்தாக்கத்தை கைவிடுவது குறித்து பேச்சுக்கள் எழுந்துள்ளன. 

தமிழகத்தைப் பொறுத்தவரை, பாலாஜி  இலாகா இல்லாத அமைச்சராக இருப்பதனால் ஏற்படக்கூடிய  ஒரே பெரிய நன்மை, அவரது மருத்துவச் செலவுகளை அரசே ஏற்கும் என்பதுதான்.  கஜானாவுக்கு ஏற்படும் சுமையைப் பற்றியோ மக்களின் வரிப்பணம் வீணாகுவது குறுத்தோ யாரும் இங்கே கவலைப்படுவது போலத் தெரியவில்லை.
