We owe moral commitment to all refugees.. 

We have passed by June 20, the World Refugee Day, as yet another. But we haven’t noticed the UN-announced theme ‘Hope Away From Home’ of this year world refugee day. 

According to the UN, 108.4 million people worldwide are forcibly displaced and on an average 20 persons become refugees every minute.   

When the civil war broke out in Sri Lanka in 1983, the Tamils started spreading to various parts of the world.  About 3,04,269 refugees have since arrived in Tamil Nadu. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, about 2.12 lakh refugees returned home to  Sri Lanka.

According to the current trends, over one lakh #SriLankan_Tamil_refugees are accommodated at 108 rehabilitation camps spread across 29 districts in Tamil Nadu. Moreover, in the wake of the recent economic crisis in Sri Lanka, more Tamil refugees have started flocking to Tamil Nadu since March 22, 203. While refuges from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Tibet have been given citizenship in India thanks to the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees who share ethnic and racial orientation with Tamil Nadu are treated as second-class citizens in the country. Besides, the recent influx of about 90 Sri Lankan refugees has caused problems to the Tamil Nadu government which does not know how to deal with them. For now, the refugees have been accommodated at the rehabilitation camps. 

Civil war, economic reverses, border wars and several factors have created the community of refugees from geo-political backgrounds.Is it not the moral duty of the whole mankind to extend a helping hand to the refuges, whichever country they have fled from? 

Let us all pledge to nourish and maintain all refugees regardless of race, language, nation, culture and religion.

English poet John Gay said, “Cowards are cruel, but the brave Love mercy and delight to save.” 

Let us be brave, by showing mercy to the refugees.

அனைத்து அகதிகளுக்கும் உதவிக்கரம் நீட்டுவது உலகின் கடமை

உலக அகதிகள் தினமான ஜூன் 20-ம் தேதியை நாம் கடந்து விட்டோம். ஆனால் இந்த ஆண்டு உலக அகதிகள் தினத்தின் கருப்பொருளாக ஐநா அறிவித்த 'வீட்டுக்கு அப்பால் நம்பிக்கை’ என்ற வாசகத்தை நாம் கவனிக்கத் தவறிவிட்டோம்.  

ஐ.நா.வின் கூற்றுப்படி, உலகளவில் 10.84 கோடி மக்கள் வலுக்கட்டாயமாக இடம்பெயர்கிறார்கள்.  ஒவ்வொரு நிமிடமும் சராசரியாக 20 பேர் அகதிகளாக மாறுகிறார்கள்.   

1983-ல் இலங்கையில் உள்நாட்டுப் போர் வெடித்தபோது, ஈழத்தமிழர்கள் உலகின் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளிலும் அகதிகளாகத் தஞ்சம் புகுந்தனர். 

 

இதுவரை 3,04,269 அகதிகள் தமிழகம் வந்துள்ளனர். சுமார் 2.12 இலட்சம் அகதிகள் இலங்கைக்கு திரும்பியுள்ளதாக ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் அகதிகளுக்கான உயர் ஆணையர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார் (UNHCR).

 தற்போதைய நிலவரப்படி, தமிழகத்தில் 29 மாவட்டங்களில் உள்ள 108 மறுவாழ்வு முகாம்களில் ஒரு லட்சத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட இலங்கைத் தமிழ் அகதிகள் தங்க வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். மேலும்,இலங்கையில் சமீபத்தில் ஏற்பட்ட  பொருளாதார நெருக்கடியை அடுத்து, 203 மார்ச் 22 முதல் அதிகமான தமிழ் அகதிகள் தமிழகத்திற்கு வரத் தொடங்கியுள்ளனர்.

 குடியுரிமை திருத்தச் சட்டம்-2019-ன் காரணமாக ஆப்கானிஸ்தான், பாகிஸ்தான், பங்களாதேஷ் மற்றும் திபெத் ஆகிய நாடுகளைச் சேர்ந்த அகதிகளுக்கு இந்தியாவில் குடியுரிமை வழங்கப்பட்ட நிலையில், தமிழகத்தோடு தொப்புள்கொடி உறவுகொண்ட இலங்கைத் தமிழ் அகதிகள் இந்த நாட்டில் இரண்டாந்தர குடிமக்களாக நடத்தப்படுகின்றனர். மேலும், சமீபத்தில் சுமார் 90 இலங்கை அகதிகளின் வருகையால் அவர்களை எப்படி கையாள்வது என்று தெரியாமல் தவிக்கிறது தமிழக அரசு. தற்போதைக்கு அகதிகள் புனர்வாழ்வு முகாம்களில் அவர்கள் தங்க வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். 

உள்நாட்டுப் போர், பொருளாதார பின்னடைவுகள், எல்லைப் போர்கள் மற்றும் பல காரணிகளால் பலவிதமான பூகோள-அரசியல் பின்னணிகளிலிருந்து வெளியேற்றிய அகதிகளின் சமூகம் உருவாகியுள்ளது உலகம் முழுவதும்.

 அவர்கள் எந்த நாட்டை விட்டு ஓடினாலும் அவர்களுக்கு உதவிக்கரம் நீட்ட வேண்டியது ஒட்டுமொத்த மனித குலத்தின் தார்மீகக் கடமையல்லவா? 

இனம், மொழி, தேசம், கலாச்சாரம், மதம் ஆகியவற்றைப் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் அனைத்து அகதிகளைப் பராமரிக்க நாம் அனைவரும் உறுதியேற்போம்.

ஆங்கிலக் கவிஞன் ஜான் கே சொன்னது போல “கோழைகள்தான்கொடுமனதுக்காரர்களாக இருப்பார்கள்: ஆனால் வீரர்கள் எப்போதும் பிற மனிதர்களைக் காப்பார்கள்; கருணையோடு செயல்படுவார்கள்.” நாம் வீரர்களாக இருப்போம்!
