Ignorance of history dominates the digital narrative Social media holds the centrestage in the digital age, propped by fabulous technologies.  Lots of social media platforms have been teeming with the so-called writers who talk about all things under the sun as if they were experts in the domains.
The digital narrative has become, as it were, a free-for-all.  All Toms, Dicks and Harrys are dominating the scenario, pontificating on any topic of the day or speaking guns blazing.
But the worst part is that they don’t care a hoot about the history, be it regional or national or international, lying unread for long in the moth-eaten pages of time. The most they know about is all that has happened after the advent of the millennium. Most of the netizens not only don’t have knowledge of history but also don’t write about it, under the wrong conception that the past has nothing to do with the present.
For instance, way back in October, 1917 a great revolution happened in Russia under the captaincy of Lenin, arousing hopes among millions and millions of the oppressed and the marginalized the world over. Even Tamil iconic poet Bharati cried in exaltation, “Goddess Parasakthi threw her merciful corner of eyes at Russia.”
But unfortunately over the years the most sublime and greatest historic episode fell into oblivion, denied even the attention that an ordinary and insignificant political event normally gets.
The irony is that even the Indian Left parties have forgotten it.  They have easily put behind them the 75-year-long Russian era which had birthed at the beginning of the 20th century. They had stopped talking about it in public.
Then the disintegration of the Soviet Russia happened in the early 1990s in what looked like a funeral rites for the much hailed and celebrated historic Russian revolution.  Funeral rites are conducted only in order to forget the pain of death. So, they conducted the funeral ceremonies  and totally forgot the pain of death of the Soviet model.
All that went into making of the October Revolution and also into the disintegration of the Soviet Russia  was pretty long sagas running to millions of pages.
Does the digitally dazzling generation have patience, perseverance and passion to sit calmly, fully plunging into the pages to glean precious knowledge?
