King Henry VIII of England was born #OnThisDay in 1491. He was the second monarch of the House of #Tudor and was succeeded by his son Edward VI. Infamous for his six marriages, Henry VIII is known for his role in the separation of the The Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church and the dissolution of the monasteries. In 1512 after a fire in the Palace of #Westminster, Henry VIII abandoned the building in favour of the nearby Palace of Whitehall.
