நெய்வேலி நிலக்கரி சுரங்கம் அமைய காரணமான ஜம்புலிங்க முதலியார் .

Jambulinga Mudaliar, a farmer landlord and important political figure in South Arcot district was the person who first discovered the presence of coal on his land. Bits of coal came gushing out of a deep well that he had sunk on his farm in the 1930s. He got examined the particles that were coming out with the water from the well. These were particles of lignite. By 1938, analyses in labs of Madras confirmed the presence of lignite. What followed was the setting up of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation in 1959 as a public limited company.
