நமக்கு இன்னும் நிறைய கபீர்கள் வேண்டும்.

தலைநிமிர்ந்து நின்ற ஞானிகளுக்கும், மகான்களுக்கும் இந்தியாவில் பஞ்சமில்லை.

அப்படி ஒரு முனிவர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார்; அவர் உண்மையையும் கடவுளையும் எந்த மதத்தின் புனித நூல்களிலும் காணவில்லை; அவற்றிற்கு அப்பால் கண்டார். இந்துக்கள் அந்தத் துறவி-கவிஞரை தங்களவர் என்று சொந்தம் கொண்டாடினர்; அதே நேரத்தில் இஸ்லாமியர்கள் அவர் தங்களுடையவர் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

இந்தப் பெருமையைப் பெற்ற முனிவர் வேறு யாருமல்ல. உத்தரப்பிரதேசத்தின் காசியில் பிறந்த 15 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டின் ஆன்மீகக் கவிஞரும் துறவியுமான கபீர் தான். இந்தியில் அவர் எழுதிய கவிதைகள் மனித குலத்திற்கு அவர் விட்டுச் சென்ற மாபெரும் இலக்கிய மரபு.

'கபீரின் 100 கவிதைகள்' என்ற ஆங்கில மொழிபெயர்ப்பை தாகூர் வெளியிட்டிருக்கிறார்.

கபீரின் சித்தாந்தத்தைப் பற்றிய பல பதிவுகள் உள்ளன. சிலர் அவரது எழுத்துக்கள் இந்துமதத் தாக்கம் பெற்றவை என்றும், சிலர் அது சூஃபியிசத்தின் ஏராளமான தடயங்களைக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது என்றும் கூறுகின்றனர்.   

எனவே, கபீரின் நினைவாக இரண்டு கோயில்கள் உள்ளன. ஒன்று இந்துக்களாலும் மற்றொன்று முஸ்லிம்களாலும் பராமரிக்கப்படுகிறது.  அதேபோல், சீக்கிய மத கிரந்த் சாஹிப்பின் வேதத்தில் இவரது கவிதைகள் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளன.

ஆனால், " கபீர் தனது நாட்டு மக்களின் இரண்டு முக்கிய மதங்களிலிருந்தும் தனது சுதந்திரத்தை ஆணித்தரமாக அறிவித்தார். இந்த மதங்களின் முட்டாள்தனங்கள் என்று அவர் கருதியவற்றைத் தீவிரமாகத் தாக்கினார். மேலும் தனது சீடர்கள் என்று கூறிக் கொண்டவர்களிடையே இதேபோன்ற சுயாட்சி மற்றும் தைரியத்தின் நெருப்பை வளர்த்தெடுக்க முயன்றார்" என்று ஓர் அறிஞர் கூறியுள்ளார்.

கபீர் மதங்களுக்கு அப்பால் இருந்தார் என்பதை நிரூபிக்கும் அவருடைய கவிதை வரிகள் இதோ:  

  “ இறைவன் பள்ளிவாசலுக்குள் இருந்தால், இந்த உலகம் யாருக்கு சொந்தம்

    உங்கள் யாத்திரையின் போது நீங்கள் காணும் உருவத்திற்குள் ராமர் இருந்தால்,

    என்ன நடக்கிறது என்பதை அறிய யார் இருக்கிறார்கள்?

 கிழக்கில் ஹரி, மேற்கில் அல்லாஹ்.

 உங்கள் இதயத்திற்குள் பாருங்கள். ஏனெனில் அங்கு நீங்கள் கரீம் மற்றும் ராமர்     இருவரையும் காண்பீர்கள்;

உலகில் உள்ள அனைத்து ஆண்களும் பெண்களும் அவரது ஜீவராசிகள்.

கபீர் அல்லாஹ்வின் குழந்தை மற்றும் ராமரின் குழந்தை.”

இந்தியாவுக்கு இன்னும் நிறைய கபீர்களின் தேவை அதிகமாகவே இருக்கிறது.

Kabir is  never more relevant……

India has no dearth of sages and saints who stood tall above religious bigotry and fundamentalist dogmatism.

There was one such sage who found truth and the God not in the Holy Books of any religion but beyond them.  The Hindus claim the saint-poet as their own whereas the Muslims say he is theirs.  

The sage who has earned this distinction is none other than Kabir, a 15th century mystic poet and saint born in Benares in Uttar Pradesh. His poems written in Hindi were the great literary legacy that he left behind for the mankind.

Tagore had brought out an English translation of ‘100 poems of Kabir.’

There are several accounts of Kabir’s ideology with some saying that his writings were influenced by Hinduism and some that they had lots of traces of Sufism.  

So, no wonder, there are two temples in memory of Kabir, one maintained by Hindus and another by Muslims.  Similarly, his poetry has figured in scripture of Sikhism Guru Granth Sahib.

But scholars have said, “While drawing on various traditions as he saw fit, Kabir emphatically declared his independence from both the major religions of his countrymen, vigorously attacked what he considered the follies of these religions, and tried to kindle the fire of a similar autonomy and courage in those who claimed to be his disciples.”

Corroborating this school of thought about Kabir, his own lines go as follows:

If God be within the mosque, then to whom does this world belong 

 If Ram be within the image which you find upon your pilgrimage,

then who is there to know what happens without?

Hari is in the East, Allah is in the West.

Look within your heart, for there you will find both Karim and Ram;

All the men and women of the world are His living forms.

Kabir is the child of Allah and of Ram: He is my Guru, He is my Pir.

But all said and done, India,   plagued as it is today with religious and caste polarizations, is in dire need of Kabirs.
