It is a general belief in India that the teaching of law and administrative services was brought into India by the British Raj. It is also generally believed that the ancient centers of learning were centered around monasteries in North India (e.g. Nalanda, Vikramashila, etc.). However, here is an example of an ancient university in the southern tip of India (in today's Parthivapuram), that was specifically set up to teach law and administrative services.
