 DMK functionaries have been posting about the reasons for the defeat. Among them, these are the factors I found most reasonable as one of the old DMK Senior functionaries .

This is not my personal opinion. I have compiled these from posts made by long-time DMK supporters and grassroots workers. (Top 10) 1) Before the election, the DMK Youth Wing organized 7 conferences. In one of them alone, they claimed that 1.5 lakh people participated. If the Youth Wing truly has over 10 lakh members, and each member had convinced even 10 people to vote, the party could have crossed 2 crore votes easily. Inflated numbers and artificial projections ultimately benefit no one. Also, why is importance given only to the Youth Wing within the DMK? 2) Red Giant Movies should stop film production altogether. Some believe this is why Vijay was not strongly criticized before the elections. 3) While many in the DMK struggle and work for years, how did leaders like Anbil Mahesh and TRB Raja rise so quickly? 4) Why was Sabareesan’s face made so visible during the election campaign? 5) Durga Stalin visiting temples is her personal choice. But why should it happen in a way that gains media attention? 6) Unlike Kalaignar, Stalin seems inaccessible to party cadres and grassroots workers. 7) The DMK IT Wing functions more like a corporate company. Many feel actual DMK cadres have little place in it. 8 ) Even after all these criticisms, many believe Stalin will never remove Minister Sekar Babu and will continue to keep him close. 9) Some feel that “civilized politics” does not work in Tamil Nadu.
