 | P.V. Narasimha Rao had immense trust in Atal Bihari Vajpayee even more than in his own Cabinet !!

In 1991, India's economy was on the brink of bankruptcy. Prime Minister Narasimha Rao summoned Finance Minister Manmohan Singh and asked, "How much money is left in the treasury?" Manmohan Singh’s reply was stark: "We only have enough to run the country for 9 days." When Rao asked how to tackle this situation, Manmohan Singh suggested that the value of the Indian Rupee would have to be devalued by 20%. Narasimha Rao agreed and told him to call a Cabinet meeting. As Manmohan Singh turned to leave for his office, he stopped, walked back, and said, "If we call a Cabinet meeting, we won't be able to make this tough decision. Every minister will focus on their respective vote banks." Narasimha Rao simply told him to go back to his room. The 20-Minute Decision : Twenty minutes later, a secretary delivered a note to Manmohan Singh in his office. It contained just one word written by Narasimha Rao: "Done." Later, when people wondered how such a massive decision was finalized in just 20 minutes without a Cabinet meeting, Narasimha Rao revealed that he had spoken to #AtalBihariVajpayee (the Leader of the Opposition) and then gave the go-ahead. This incident illustrates the P.V. Narasimha Rao Rao had in Vajpayee even more than in his own Cabinet. He knew that Vajpayee would prioritize national interest above all else. After that harsh economic decision was announced, the BJP did not launch protest movements; instead, they supported the Congress government of the time to get the economy back on track. But today opposition objects & protests on each and every decision taken by NDA Govt. There is no statesmanship, no cooperation, neither national interest. At present time, vote bank is more than national interest for some parties. The relationship between Atal Bihari Vajpayee and P. V. Narasimha Rao was the biggest reason why #Soniagandhi’ s Congress hated P. V. Narasimha Rao the most, and they took revenge for this when Rao was dead by not providing a place in Delhi for his cremation. #congress
