சென்னை நகரில் நுங்கம்பாக்கத்தில் 1987 - இல் தொடங்கப்பட்ட #லேண்ட்_மார்க்  மிக அருமையான புத்தகக் கடை. அது 2014 கட்டத்தில் மூடப்பட்டுவிட்டது. இப்போது #ஹிக்கின்பாதம்ஸ் புத்தகக் கடை இருக்கிறது. #ஸ்டார்மார்க் என்று சொல்லப்பட்ட கொல்கத்தாவைத் தலைமையிடமாகக் கொண்ட புத்தகக் கடை, எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் அவென்யூ மற்றும் ஃபோனிக்ஸ் மாலிலும் இருந்ததை மூடிவிட்டதாகத் தகவல். சென்னையில் #ஓரியண்ட்_லாங்மென் இருந்தது. அதுவும் இப்போது மூடப்பட்டுவிட்டது. இவ்வாறு #சென்னையில்_இருந்த_நல்ல_புத்தகக்_கடைகள் எல்லாம் மூடப்பட்டு வருவது வருத்தமான செய்தி. ஸ்டார்மார்க் இப்போது #கிராஸ்வேர்ல்டுக்கு கைமாறிவிட்டது என்பது நேற்று அங்கு சென்றபோதுதான் அறிந்தேன். 

Some years ago, Landmark, one of the most popular book shops in Chennai, was truly a landmark in Nungambakkam. We were able to find unique collection of books. When the shop was closed, it came as a shocking news for the book lovers. Recently, Starmark , another book shop that had outlets in Express Avenue Mall and Phoenix Mall was sold off to a well known company. As a voracious reader, I not only feel disturbed about the deterioration in reading habit of people but also when I hear about popular book stores shutting shop. Starmark was taken by #Cross_word. The century old #Higginbothams is still running.
