This Mylapore house

This Mylapore house is an example of classical influences prevalent in architecture during the colonial era. The plain bodied columns on the ground level are of the Tuscan order of design and the columns on the upper level are of the Corinthian order of design – notice the ridges on the body and scroll like details on the capital (head of the column). While the façades of such houses bore a classical look, the insides were dominated by vernacular style of construction. Try to go back in time and imagine streets of Mylapore lined with such fabulous wall to wall houses. The area's urban heritage has changed drastically over time but some of these icons are still surviving in few by lanes and unsuspecting corners.
