Every excavation tells a story of India’s rich past.

Every excavation tells a story of India’s rich past. The excavation and exploration branches of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has significantly contributed towards our understanding of the Indian history and culture

The primary objectives of the ASI’s excavation and exploration branches include conducting problem-oriented surveys, which encompass the exploration and excavation of ancient sites and mounds. These efforts are complemented by thorough research on the findings from the exploration and excavation work. The branches also focus on the preparation of comprehensive reports based on their fieldwork. An essential aspect of their mission is fostering interaction with various universities and research institutions to enhance collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the field of archaeology. Through meticulous excavation techniques, ASI uncovers ancient artifacts and relics that help reconstruct the history. The important excavated sites include Sarnath, Rakhigarhi, Dholavira, Kalibangan, Sanghol among others.
