சென்னை ஐ.ஐ.டியில் வட்டார இலக்கியங்களின் வாசிப்பு - Alumni of IIT-M embrace regional language literature

சென்னை ஐ.ஐ.டியின் பழைய மாணவர்கள் "Bibliothek" என்ற அமைப்பின் மூல்மாக, ஒவ்வொரு மாதத்திலும் ஒரு சனிக்கிழமையில் பிற்பகல் சென்னை ஐ.ஐ.டியின் Houses Centre முதல் மாடியில் ஒன்றுகூடி, வட்டார இலக்கியங்கள் மீதான வாசிப்பும், விவாதங்களும் நடத்துவது பாராட்டுக்குரிய செய்தியாகும்.

இந்த மாதம் வாசுதேவன் நாயரின் மலையாள நாவலான Naalukettu படைப்பைப் பற்றி வாசிப்பும், ஆய்வும் நடந்துள்ளது. இந்த அமைப்பின் உறுப்பினர் ரீட்டா சௌத்ரி, “தொழி்ல்நுட்பக் கல்வி மாணவர்களிடையே வட்டார இலக்கியங்கள் மீதும் கவனத்தை உருவாக்க வேண்டும்” என்ற நோக்கத்தில் இந்த அமைப்பு உருவாகியுள்ளது என்று குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

ஏற்கனவே ஐ.ஐ.டியில் பல நியாயமான உரிமைகளுக்காக போராடியவர்கள், இலக்கியத்திற்காக அமைதியான விவாதத்தை நடத்துவது மகிழ்ச்சியைத் தருகிறது. இந்த அமைப்பு தமிழ் இலக்கியங்களுக்கும் முன்னுரிமை வழங்கவேண்டும் என்பது நமது கோரிக்கை.

Cuddling up with a book and a cup of tea could be a ideal way of spending a Saturday afternoon for many book lovers. For members of IIT-M alumni interaction centre's book-reading club, the books and tea are accompanied by engaging conversations in a room filled with some of the finest minds.

One Saturday every month, members of `Bibliothek', which include non-IITians, sit, copies of a book in hand, around the wooden table of the long rectangular room on the first floor of the building that houses the centre. This August, the book turned out to be M T Vasudevan Nair's Naalukettu in Malayalam -being read as part of the ongoing series on regional language literature.

The conversation was not just about the storyline or the plot of Naalukettu but its various tenets. The discussion ranged from a matriarchal home, politics, misogyny , and character analysis of various characters in the novels as well as those in epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharata.

“We realised there is so much talent in our own backyard when we started reading this series. In fact, reading a book in the original language would be even better but we are restricted since we need translations,“ said Bibliothek co-or dinator Sukumari Polavaram.The club has so far covered literature in Marathi, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu among other languages.
