பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சராகவும், காமன்வெல்த் மற்றும்  ஐநா சபையில்  இந்திய பிரதிநிதியாகவும், சீனா மற்றும் அண்டை நாட்டு எல்லை பிரச்சினை போன்றவற்றை கையாண்ட  *வி.கே.கிருஷ்ண மேனன்*, நேரு குடும்பத்திற்கு மிகவும் நெருக்கமாக இருந்தவர்.  நேருவின் பல புத்தகங்கள் அச்சிற்கு வர காரணமாக இருந்தவர். 1967ல் தேர்தலில் போட்டியிட விரும்பிய மேனனுக்கு காங்கிரசின் முக்கிய தலைவர் எஸ்.கே. பாட்டீல் எதிர்க்க அவருக்கு டிக்கெட் மறுக்கப்படுகிறது. அதை மீறி மேனன் சுயேச்சையாக போட்டியிட்டு வட கிழக்கு மும்பையில் தோல்வியைத் தழுவுகிறார். அதன்பிறகு எம்பி ஆக முடிவு செய்த வேளையில் அண்ணா தலைமையில் தமிழகத்தில் திமுக ஆட்சி அமைகிறது. அந்த கட்டத்தில் தென்சென்னையில் இடைத் தேர்தல் வர மேனன் அண்ணாவிடம் தனக்கு தென்சென்னை தொகுதியை ஒதுக்கினால் அனைவரும் இணைந்து காங்கிரசை எதிர்க்கலாம் என்று கடிதம் மூலம் தெரிவிக்கிறார். திமுக தொகுதியை ஒதுக்க முடியாது எனவும், கலைஞரின் மருமகன் முரசொலி மாறன் அந்த தொகுதியில் போட்டியிட போவதாக சொல்லி அண்ணா அவருடைய வேண்டுகோளை மறுக்கிறார். நேருவின் நெருங்கிய சகாவாக இருந்த மேனன் திமுகவிடம் வேண்டி நின்ற நிலை 1967ல் நிலவியது. 

கிருஷ்ண மேனன், கேரள மாநிலத்தைச் சார்ந்தவர். கோயம்புத்தூரில் சிறிது காலம் தங்கியிருந்தார். அதன் நினைவாக கோவையில் காந்திபுரம் பேருந்து நிலையம் அருகே வி.கே.மேனன் வீதி என்ற பெயர் கொண்ட தெரு இன்றும் இருந்து வருகிறது.இது குறித்து மத்திய முன்னாள்

நூலில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

Within 5 days office defeat however V.K.Krishnamenon wrote to the chief minister of Madras Anna, Party Gl.Seretary,DMK had just then swept into power.

‘’I am now writing to ask your advice and support in regard to you are offering myself as a candidate in the impending bye election in South Madras. I would not consider this much less entertain it, without your full and pressure support. I feel that you would consider that my return to parliament would in a small measure be of service to the country and to Madras. I have publicly declared my support of your government on always have had the enthusiastic and active assistance of the DMK supporters in Bombay.

With your support on endorsement I can win in South Madras. I will do my best to be of service to the Madras state and to further its interests at the centre. I am as you know, totally and strongly e opposed to the Congress and its government as it is today. If there is to be a Congress candidate in South Madras whoever it is I would have no reservations in opposing him fully andvigorously.’’
