Government Medical Department in the Emergency Care Unit; Chief Minister Joseph Vijay Must Immediately Fulfill His Election Promise. Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party, State President Nainar Nagendran Statement Tamil Nadu Health Minister Mr. Arunraj has requested that all VIPs in Tamil Nadu place their trust in government general hospitals and seek treatment there. While this is commendable, it is an undeniable truth that if this were not merely verbal or a mere appeal, but an order from the Tamil Nadu government, the state's medical department would achieve significant advancement and transformation. In earlier eras, government general hospitals in Tamil Nadu were the sole lifelines. There were no private hospitals like the cancer we see today. They were scattered here and there. Even then, if any danger arose for patients receiving treatment in those private general hospitals, they would be referred to government general hospitals. There, admitted to the emergency care unit, they would receive proper treatment and survive. That is the reality. Prominent leaders such as Mr. Anna, Mr. Kamaraj, Mr. Kakkan, Mr. Karunanidhi, and Mr. MGR are examples of those who received treatment in government hospitals and recovered well. The current state of government general hospitals is lamentable. Dilapidated buildings, deteriorated hygiene, a lack of adequate doctors and nurses, leaving patients to suffer—these are the tragic hallmarks of today's government hospitals. In rural areas, even basic medical and health facilities are inadequate. Due to the absence of doctors and nurses, hospital sanitation workers end up providing treatment to patients—a situation that has emerged. Therefore, instead of dwelling on blame toward the recently concluded DMK regime, the newly formed TVK government must promptly fulfill the election promises made during the last assembly elections without delay. During the 2026 assembly elections, in the TVK government's election manifesto on page 7 in the section titled "Inbam," it was stated that: •High-quality medical care will be provided to all families in Tamil Nadu. •Immediately upon forming the TVK government, the "People's Welfare Insurance Card" worth Rs. 25 lakhs will be provided to every family. •A free full-body health check-up will be conducted once a year. •High-quality medical drugs will be sold at reduced prices. •In rural areas, facilities such as emergency care units, maternity examination operation theaters, and ambulances will be provided. Therefore, I urge that Chief Minister Joseph Vijay immediately fulfill the medical promises made to the people during the last assembly elections, elevate the standards of public hospitals, safeguard the government medical department in the emergency care unit, and deliver benefits to the people of Tamil Nadu. Nainar Nagendran State President
