Unlike Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s elder brother Sarat Chandra Bose, who along with Suhrawardy, tried his level best to form an ‘United Bengal’ under Pakistan and ruled by a Muslim Prime Minister; Netaji’s eldest brother Satish Chandra Bose (seen here with Netaji) supported the creation of a separate West Bengal with Hindu majority. Satish Chandra Bose stood with Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in this regard. On 15th April 1947, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at the historic ‘Tarakeswar Hindu Mahasammelan’ had successfully authorized the partition of Bengal, ensuring Hindu-majority areas were carved out into a separate homeland (West Bengal) within the Indian Union. On 20th June 1947, Satish Chandra Bose was among the Hindu members of the Bose family that voted in favour of dividing Bengal, and creating a Hindu homeland for the Bengalis. Amrita bazar Patrika 21 June 1947 DISSOLUTION OF BENGAL MINISTRY DEMANDED Dr. Mookherjee Urges Immediate Safeguard Of Hindus CALCUTTA, June 20.-In a statement issued-mediately following the Bengal partition decision, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee, the Hindu Mahasabha leader, suggested that the present Bengal Ministry must be forth-with dissolved. "If there is some delay on account of some technical grounds for the formation of Regional Ministries, we would prefer even Section 93 for a brief period, he said. Dr. Mookherjee added: "The inevitable has happened. Partition of Bengal was the only means by which Hindus could save their culture, their lives, properties and honour and retain their connection with the Indian Union. The task of rebuilding both parts of Bengal will be indeed stupendous and will re-quire the whole-hearted energy and co-operation of all parties and communities, irrespective of political or other differences. Bengal Hindus were being crushed out of existence on account of an unparalleled communal tyranny. They now can breathe a sigh of relief and will regard 20th of June as a day of deliverance. It is now up to them to shape their future in a worthy manner so as to serve the best interests of the common man. One great responsibility which will face the new West Bengal Government and the Central Government will be the protection of several millions Hindus who against their will are being forced into Pakistan, outside the Indian Union. -(A.P.)
