His personal assistant, Padmanabha Joshi informed Dipam Bhachech that Sarabhai never wore shoes. Bhachech mentioned this in the Ahmedabad Mirror. Vikram Sarabhai's father was the mill owner Ambalal. Ambalal's sister led one of the most successful workers strike against mill owners.
Vikram Sarabhai, from the illustrious industrial family of Ahmedabad, was a physicist and astronomer. He set up India's space programme. He also made contribution to India's nuclear programme. India's first space research lab was set up at his residence. The Physical Research Lab provided the nucleus of India's space research. He died of a cardiac arrest in December 1971. He was 52.
