Known for her beauty and her acting as well as for dancing in many styles, she was most famous as an exponent of the classical southern Indian dance form called Bharata Natyam. Born in Poojapura in Thiruvananthapuram on June 12, 1932, Padmini made her debut in the 1949 Hindi language film Kalpana. In her illustrious decade-long career, Padmini acted in more than 250 films in Tamil, Malayalam,Telugu, Kannada and Hindi languages. Padmini paired with famous film stars like Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Raaj Kumar, Shivaji Ganesan, MG Ramachandran and Prem Nazir.
