You are our hero, Dr Minal. We salute your hard work and dedication.

"She is very hard working and extremely dedicated," says Dr Gautam Wankhede, Mylab's Director of Medical Affairs, about virologist Minal Dakhave Bhosale.

Mylab's research and development chief, Dr Minal headed the team that designed Patho Detect — the first 'Made-In-India' COVID-19 test kit — in a record time of six weeks.

But this wasn't the only deadline the scientist was battling with. While working on the kit, Minal was in the final stages of her pregnancy and gave birth to a baby girl last week.

In fact, she only began work on the programme in February, just days after leaving hospital with a pregnancy complication.

"It was an emergency, so I took this on as a challenge. I have to serve my nation," says Dr. Minal adding that her team of 10 worked "very hard" to make the project a success.

In the end, she submitted the kit for evaluation by the National Institute of Virology (NIV) on 18 March, just a day before delivering her daughter.

Interestingly, Dr Minal had also worked on the swine flu disease at NIV, Pune, during the 2009 outbreak.
