Air India

Air India got its Maharaja from R K Laxman, the cartoonist. The Maharaja depicted the sort of service that passengers got routinely on every Air India flight. Laxman and Ratan Tata had long discussions to ensure that the Maharaja was just right to look at. In 1978, Tata was sacked from the Board of Air India when he objected to prime minister Morarji Desai's injunction that no alcohol be served abroad international flights. Morarji remained prime minister for just a few months. But in those he managed to do lasting damage to the Indian economy. Damage to Air India was just one of those many other harms that Morarji caused.

Long ago in history, in times far gone by, Air India was considered to be one of the best airlines in the world for its friendly service. Pic. from the 1970s
